What is the St. Vincent de Paul Society?
It is a volunteer organization that empowers people to achieve self-sufficiency by offering financial, material, educational, and spiritual support. We serve the working poor in our local community, regardless of their background, ethnicity or faith. These activities are supported by the generous donations of our parishioners’ time, talent and treasure. More information about the St. Vincent de Paul Society can be found on the Atlanta council’s website. There you will find details about the history of the society, the programs we offer, and stories of individuals that have been assisted.
How are parishioners at STM involved?
Many parishioners of STM support the St. Vincent de Paul Society through their financial contributions during our periodic collections at mass. However, there is also a need for volunteers to respond to requests for assistance from potential clients and to make personal visits to those we are able to assist. At this time, there is a particular need for caseworkers to make home visits. The time commitment is typically 5 hours per month.
How can I participate?
If you would like to join SVdP at STM, please contact Betsy Walker at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can attend one of our fellowship meetings, which are held on the first Sunday of each month at 9:30 am. Please check the bulletin for the location as it frequently changes to accommodate other activities within our parish.
If I know someone who needs assistance, how do I refer them?
Anyone needing assistance should call the direct aid line at 678-892-6163 and enter 149 to access the voice mailbox for St. Thomas More. Some basic information is requested, but the more details you can provide about your circumstances, the easier it is for us to determine if we can assist you. Please be aware that because of the high volume of phone calls we receive each week and the limited number of volunteers we have, only those that we may be able to assist will be called back.
*** Please note that requests of assistance from parishioners of STM are given priority over other requests. If you are a registered parishioner who needs assistance, please call the parish office in addition to calling the direct aid line. When you leave a message in our voicemail system, be sure to state that you are an STM parishioner. ***
Thank you for your interest in the St. Vincent de Paul Society!
