On March 13, representatives from fourteen parish elementary schools convened at Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center in Sandy Springs to discuss how to effectively infuse Ignatian spirituality into the daily routine at our schools. Participants were enthusiastic about our shared Ignatian mission, especially after hearing Fr. John O’Malley, S.J., of Georgetown University talk about the history of early Jesuit education and Fr. Ryan Maher, S.J., President of Scranton Prep, speak about the qualities we hope to instill in the students and teachers at Jesuit-sponsored elementary schools.
The group calls itself “The Ignatian Elementary School Network (IESN),” and adopted the following mission statement:
IESN is committed to the formation of youth in Ignatian identity as a core function of the elementary school community. The purpose and future of this professional network is to collaborate to deepen Ignatian practices at the elementary level for the common good. Our members commit to actively net-work and engage with all Jesuit works.
