The STM Social Justice Committee has partnered with Catholic Charities Atlanta to provide an After School Program for immigrant students attending Indian Creek Elementary School in Clarkston. Before the pandemic, STM parishioners provided after school homework help for 2nd and 3rd graders whose families travelled to the US from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma, Central African Republic, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Nepal, Syria, and Tanzania. Post pandemic, STMers have become Zoomers to still provide that homework support. In addition, twice a month, parishioners deliver art enrichment activities over Zoom, ranging from projects that highlight the students’ country of origin to projects that introduce students to the great artists of the world. This program is the brainchild of STM Parishioner John Schwenkler.
