Fr. Bob Hussey, SJ – Pastor
Fr. Robert Hussey, S.J. grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, studied economics at Louisiana State University and Duke University, and entered the Jesuits in 1989. After ordination to the priesthood in 2000, Fr. Bob has served on faculty at Georgetown University, as pastor of St. Raphael the Archangel parish in Raleigh, North Carolina, and as Provincial of the Maryland Province of the Jesuits. He began as Pastor at STM in July of 2021.
Fr. Kevin Hughes, S.J. – Parochial Vicar
Kevin C. Hughes, S.J., is from Cherry Hill, NJ, and attended St. Joseph’s Prep and La Salle University, both in Philadelphia. After completing his undergrad in biology he joined the Jesuits and completed an M.S. in biology, before teaching math and science at McQuaid Jesuit high school in Rochester, NY. While working on an M.Div. at Regis College in Toronto, Kevin also worked with the local deaf Catholic community, where he served as deacon. After completing his degree, Kevin returned to the US and was ordained to the priesthood on 8 August 2020 and spent a year serving in Our Lady of Hope Parish in Portland, ME.
Shaun Bland – STM School Principal
Mrs. Shaun Bland is returning for her 3rd year at STM and is prayerfully optimistic that this year will be a little less eventful than the first two years! She brings a lot of archdiocesan experience, teaching at St. Jude School for 18 years and spending 7 years as an administrator at Christ the King School. Mrs. Bland is married, with 4 grown children and 4 grandchildren. She likes reading, hiking, and spending time with her family. Working in a Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition, the bright and enthusiastic students, and the dedicated faculty and staff are some of her favorite things about STM.
Darija Pichanick – Parish Administrator
Darija, a native of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has lived in the US since late 1993. She studied literature, film, heritage, and ethnography at the University of Sarajevo, Georgia State University, and the University of Edinburgh. After almost three decades of working in theatre, film, and nonprofit leadership, a Covid induced shift in priorities led her to help at the STM office. Darija and her family have been active STM parishioners since 2014.
Carol Palmer – Business Manager
Carol Palmer grew up in Rochester, NY and has lived in Atlanta since 2010. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC with a BS Accounting degree. She is the proud mother of 2 children, has 3 beautiful granddaughters and a dog named Boomer. She has worked for several large corporations, the USO in Kuwait, and at STM since 2016.
Joe Messina – Director of Worship
Joe Messina grew up in the Midwest, Kansas City Missouri and has lived in Atlanta since 1979. Joe has worked for the Archdiocese of Atlanta for 34 years and 16 of those years have been here at STM.
Andy Otto – Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation
Andy Otto is originally from the Boston area where he earned a Master in Theology and Ministry from Boston College. Andy and his wife Sarah previously lived in Chico, CA where he taught high school theology. He has has two children and has lived in Atlanta since 2017. Andy is the author of God Moments: Unexpected Encounters in the Ordinary.
Sarah Otto – Adult Faith Formation
Sarah Otto grew up in Phoenix, AZ and has lived in Atlanta since 2017. She has been a part of the Jesuit world since 2003, when she studied theology at Santa Clara University. After graduation, she did a year of service with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and then received her Master of Divinity at Boston College. Prior to moving to Atlanta, she worked in college campus ministry. She and her husband, Andy, have two children.
Stewart Voegtlin – Youth Religious Education
Stewart Voegtlin was born and raised in Georgia, and lives in Avondale Estates with his wife, Katrina, son, Trey, and dog, Bowser. Stewart’s been at St. Thomas More for over two years, and works with children ages Pre-Kindergarten to 12th Grade.
Todd Hines – Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds
Mitu Assefa – Administrative Assistant
Mitu Assefa was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She moved to Atlanta in 2003 and has been a parishioner at St. Thomas More since then. She also has a son who attends STM Catholic School.
Shelly Stafford – Communications
Shelly Stafford is originally from Palm Harbor, Fl. She has lived in the Atlanta area since 1982 and has been a parishioner at St. Thomas More for 18 years. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism. She has 4 daughters who all attended STM Catholic School. Shelly has co-owned a website consulting business for the past 21 years with her husband.
Carl McColman – RCIA Coordinator
Carl McColman grew up in Hampton, Virginia, and has lived in the Atlanta area since 1993. He is the author of several books and a blog on the topics of spirituality and prayer. He and his wife Fran have co-directed the RCIA process at St. Thomas More since 2016.
Fran McColman – RCIA Coordinator
Fran McColman grew up in Forsyth, Georgia, and has lived in the Atlanta area since 1980. She is an artist who enjoys creating photography, hand-painted silk scarves, and ice-dyed t-shirts. She and her husband Carl have co-directed the RCIA process at St. Thomas More since 2016.
