Baptism

Infant Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is an invitation from the Holy Spirit to a life of fullness within God’s family. By choosing to baptize your child, you are entrusting them to Christ and welcoming them into the Christian community. STM is pleased to be a part of this special moment.

“Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons [and daughters] of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213)

Baptism is really the beginning of a journey to transform the world in the light of Christ. It is also a call to share in the common life of the community, deepened with Confirmation and Eucharist. Parents, together with the sponsor(s) (godparents), live and share their faith with the child, raise them in the faith, and share God’s love with them.

Parents and sponsors are asked to participate in a one-hour baptism preparation class (if not competed in the past three years) before baptizing their child. You can register for the class here. Please contact the parish office (parishoffice@stmga.org or 404-378-4588) to schedule a baptism.

Adult Baptism
Adults have celebrated the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) since the early church. The church takes seriously the Holy Spirit’s invitation to someone to enter the Catholic Church. Normally, a period of preparation and faith formation occurs through the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process. This time allows for continued discernment, a deepening of one’s conversion to the faith, and explores what it means to be Catholic. Learn more about RCIA here.

The Christian community welcomes you with great joy!
